A day after Karnataka's iconic Lingayat seer Shivakumara Swami was laid to rest with state honours in the Siddaganga Mutt, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has raked up a furore with his remarks over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence from the funeral. "PM Modi attends celebrity weddings, meets movie stars but skips the funeral of our NaDedaDuva devaru," G Parameshwara of the Congress tweeted.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, the deputy chief minister also alleged that repeated requests to confer the highest civilian award -- the Bharat Ratna -- on the seer went unheeded.
"Repeated requests to confer Bharat Ratna on him have gone in vain. A truly well-deserved recipient of Kotler Award," the deputy CM added.

The 111-year-old popular and influential seer of the powerful Lingayat community died on Monday (January 21) in the Mutt after a protracted illness.
While condolences from all quarters, including top political leaders, poured in soon after the news of the Swami's death emerged, PM Modi on Monday took to Twitter to pay his tributes to the seer, saying that the Swami had lived for the people, especially the poor and vulnerable. The PM also expressed his prayers and solidarity with the seer's devotees around the world.

On Tuesday, thousands paid tributes to Shivakumara Swami even as the state government declared a three-day mourning.
