Piracy is a filmmaker's worst nightmare. Despite efforts, films have been duplicated and recorded and made available for download online. In the past month itself, films like Uri: the Surgical Strike and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi have fallen prey to piracy. However, it looks like that this might just change.
Much to Bollywood's relief, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for introducing the Cinematograph Amendment Bill, 2019 to amend the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The Bill aims to tackle piracy by including the penal provisions for unauthorized cam-cording and duplication of films.
A relieved Anil Kapoor tweeted and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The proposed amendments would increase Industry revenues, boost job creation, fulfill important objectives of India's National lP policy & give relief against piracy & infringing content online." All hail the #CinematographAct! Thanks to @narendramodi ji & to the Cabinet!"
Last month, Anil Kapoor visited PM Modi and shared a photo. He captioned the picture saying, "I had the opportunity to meet our h'ble Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji today & I stand humbled and inspired in the wake of our conversation. His vision and his charisma are infectious & I'm grateful for the chance to have witnessed it in person."
Anil Kapoor last release, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, released on February 1, and has received positive reviews from fans.
