An earthquake on Saturday (February 2) struck off an island in Indonesia.
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off Sumatra island in Indonesia at a depth of 10 km on Saturday afternoon, the US Geological Survey said, according to a Reuters report.
Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said there were no immediate reports of damage and that there was no potential for tsunami, the report said.
An initial USGS reading had put the quake at a depth of 38 km.
The main shock struck with the epicenter at 117 km southeast of Mentawai Island and a depth of 17 km under sea bed, Jajat Jatmika, an official in charge of the meteorology and geophysics agency, told Xinhua News Agency.
According to the Xinhua news report, a 5.3 magnitude foreshock with a depth of 10 km jolted the province 24 minutes earlier.
