Two different genres of films released last Friday, i.e., on March 8. One was Bollywood suspense thriller Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu, and the other was Hollywood’s Captain Marvel that had Brie Larson in the lead role. With both films having a different set of audiences, they have managed to receive positive reviews from numerous outlets. Badla has raked in a decent amount. However, the box office collections have seemingly favoured the Marvel Universe’s, Captain Marvel. At least the current weekend trends suggest so.
Badla started off on a decent note as it collected Rs 5.04 crore on its first day, Rs 8.55 crore on March 9 and Rs 9.61 crore on Sunday, making it a total weekend collection of Rs 23.20 crore. Captain Marvel, on the other hand, made Rs 13.01 crore on March 8, Rs 14.10 crore on March 9, followed by a collection of Rs 16 crore on Sunday, taking its overall three days collection to a whopping 40 crores. Well, no one seems to be escaping from Brie Larson’s superpowers, not even Big B. But one must note here is that Captain Marvel has more screens than Badla.
Now, we wait to see how the film does on the upcoming weekdays. Looking at the trend on weekend, we assume Captain Marvel will continue to takeover Badla, mainly due to an insane Marvel fan-following in India.
Badla marks the reunion of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu after their last outing PINK. On the other hand, Captain Marvel also stars Samuel L Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan and Annette Benning in pivotal roles. It has been directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
