India Yamaha Motor today launched the MT-15 at a starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will challenge the likes of KTM 125 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
Yamaha MT-15 sports an aggressive design and is based on Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0. It features a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, four-valve, 155 cc, fuel injected engine along with Variable Valve Actuation system on a delta box frame. The motor produces 19.3 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. Yamaha MT-15 gets a six-speed gearbox along with a slipper clutch.
The braking duties in Yamaha MT-15 are performed by disc brakes both up front (245 mm) and at the rear. A dual channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) enabled YZF R15 Version 3.0 was launched by India Yamaha Motor in January 2019 and it was claimed by the company that YZF R15 Version 3.0 was the first 150 cc model with such a safety feature. A smilar dual channel ABS was expected in Yamaha MT-15 as well. However, it gets only a single channel ABS.
There is a telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear in Yamaha MT-15. Although there is no aluminium swingarm, LED headlights give it a bold look. There is a digital display as well.
Yamaha MT-15 has a length and width of 2,020 mm and 800 mm, respectively. While the height is 1,070 mm, the wheelbase is 1,335 mm. The weight of the naked bike is 138 kg (with oil and a full fuel tank). It is available in two colour options -- Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue.
Yamaha YZF R15 V3.0 ABS comes at an introductory price of Rs 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With Yamaha MT-15 being launched at Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), customers have more options to choose from now.
