Two tweets from the official Twitter handle for UP Chief Minister Office have tagged an unverified fake account in place of the official account of UP CM Yogi Adityanath

We all have had that problem where we have accidentally tagged the wrong person in a photo. What it does for a regular person is that it gets you an earful from the friend who doesn't get tagged in your photo. Not too big a deal, right?
But what happens when the Twitter account for the Chief Minister Office of the Uttar Pradesh government tags the wrong account for the Chief Minister?
Yup. Two tweets from the official Twitter handle for UP CMO @CMOfficeUP have tagged an unverified fake account in place of the official account of UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
The first tweet is from January 21, 2019, and is about the Yogi Adityanath surveying the preparations for the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held in Varanasi from January 21-23.

The second tweet comes on the morning of January 22. This time the account tags the wrong account in a post about the UP CM welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Varanasi. PM Modi is in the temple town to inaugurate the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and hold talks with his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth after the inaugural session.

On first glance, it's hard to spot the fake account. It goes by the handle @myogiaditynathwhereas the official verified account of Yogi Adityanath is @myogiadityanath. The scarlet letter A is all it takes to make the difference.
A closer inspection of the fake account shows that it was active for a short period in 2017. Namely only 20 days. The account has only five tweets. It was made in December 2016.
The Yogi impersonator.
However, the imposter syndrome is strong with this one. The user very confidently describes themselves as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. The profile photo is of Yogi Adityanath. The cover photo is from the UP CM's oath taking ceremony in March 2017. Beaming next to Yogi in the photo are Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah. An exact copy of the official account of the UP CM.
Shakespeare may say what's in a name but here it makes all the difference. The real account goes by the name Yogi Adityanath whereas the fake account goes by .
The blue tick makes all the difference.
The tweets are written in the first person, making it seem like the Gorakhpur holy man wrote them himself. "Did an inspection of the Gonda district clinic today" reads the last tweet.
However, it looks like the UP CMO account realised its folly. The tweets were eventually deleted about 18 hours later and reuploaded, this time with the right tag.
All's well that ends well!
