Following the release of Netflix's Bird Box, the streaming service is urging viewers not to partake in a challenge which involves people putting blindfolds on themselves.
The apocalyptic film has also inspired the latest internet craze: the #birdboxchallange.
The American media services provider has urged the fans to not engage in blindfolding activities due to safety concerns.
Releasing an official statement after the meme got out of hand, Netfdlix wrote, "Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."
However, the viewers of the film have taken to social media to share pictures and videos of themselves blindfolded, just like the lead actress Sandra Bullock has to do in order to survive.
In the thriller, Bullock's character Malorie Hayes leads children on a journey during which they must cover their eyes to protect them from malevolent supernatural beings.
The beings compel any human who sees them to quickly try to kill themselves.
The title refers to a box of birds, carried by Bullock's character, which begin to chirp when the unseen evil approaches.
The reactions t9o Netflix's cautionary was rather taken with a big pinch of salt. Have a look.
Stay safe people, enjoy sight while you still can.
Have a good day.
