Earlier this year, Google and Amazon ended their long-running feud by jointly announcing that YouTube will be coming to Amazon's Fire TV devices while Google's Chromecast will get Amazon Prime Video. It has taken several months for this to happen, but it is now official. Starting Tuesday, Fire TV owners will be able to download the official YouTube app, while Chromecast owners will be able to cast the Prime Video app via their iOS or Android devices.
The official YouTube app can now be found in the "Your Apps" section in Fire TV. Amazon says that the YouTube app will be available worldwide on Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and all Fire TV Edition smart TVs. The company added in its statement that it will expand to additional Fire TV devices in the coming months with YouTube TV and YouTube Kids launching later this year.
The YouTube app is available in India as we were able to download it on our Fire TV device. This is a full-fledged YouTube app that also works with Alexa voice control and is capable of playing compatible in 4K HDR at 60 fps on supported TVs and streaming media players. Up until now, the only way Fire TV owners could access YouTube was through the web browser.
Meanwhile, the Amazon Prime Video app for iOS and Android will now support Chromecast. Users will be able to cast the app and stream videos on TVs with a Chromecast device either hooked up or built-in. Additionally, the Prime Video app will be available on a wider selection of Android TV devices around the world.
