Jasprit Bumrah has been rested by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for India's one-day international series against Australia and New Zealand.

Bumrah will also not play the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand, the BCCI announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Mohammed Siraj has been called up for the ODIs in Australia and New Zealand in place of Bumrah, while Siddarth Kaul has been drafted into the squad for the T20 Internationals.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to rest India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand.

"Keeping in mind the work load of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia. Mohammed Siraj will replace Bumrah in the squad for the Australia and New Zealand tour," BCCI said in a statement.

"Siddarth Kaul has also been drafted into the squad for the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand," BCCI added.

The ODI members of Team India are already on their way to Australia with the likes of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni expected to reach on Tuesday.

Bumrah was the shining light for India with the ball as they won a historic Test series against Australia on Monday. Virat Kohli became the first Asian captain to beat Australia in their own country as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1.

Bumrah was the joint-highest wicket taker in the four Tests, with 21 wickets from 943 balls, giving away just 357 runs in the process. He bowled over 157 overs during the entire series.

Siraj has been top form with the ball in domestic cricket. In his last Ranji Trophy for Hyderabad against Punjab, he picked up seven wickets. He had also put in good performances against New Zealand A last year.

Kaul too has been in good form with the ball and recently took 10 wickets in his last two first-class games. He also picked up seven wickets against New Zealand A, including a 4-wicket haul in the last match.

India are slated to face Australia in three ODIs which begins with the first ODI on January 12 in Sydney, followed by the second ODI on January 15 in Adelaide and the third ODI being on January 18 in Melbourne.

India are then slated to travel to New Zealand for a 5-match ODI series, which starts from January 23 and then will play three T20Is starting February 10.

After registering a comprehensive 318-run win over West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah expressed joy to be a part of a team to register India's biggest win by margin overseas.

In an Instagram post, Bumrah posted two pictures and wrote: "Biggest test victory overseas, so proud to be a part of this side" as the caption.

Bumrah scalped five wickets in the second innings, helping India bundle out Windies for just 100 runs. As a result, India secured a thumping win.

In the first innings, Bumrah had become the fastest Indian pacer to scalp 50 Test wickets, going past Venkatesh Prasad and Mohammad Shami.

Bumrah achieved the feat in his 11th match, whereas both Shami and Prasad had recorded the milestone in 13 Tests.

On day four of the Test, India resumed their innings at 185/3 and they went on to add 158 runs more to their tally to take the score up to 343 runs and gain a lead of 418 runs.

Windies batsmen failed to stay at the crease for a long time in the second innings and their entire team was bowled out inside 27 overs.

India have now gained a 1-0 lead in the series.

ICC Rankings: Virat Kohli Achieves Rare Landmark, Surpasses Brian Lara

Virat Kohli became only the second batsman to cross the 900-point mark in both Tests and ODIs on the ICC rankings.

India captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday became the second batsman to cross 900-point mark in both Tests and ODIs. Kohli's prolific run with the bat has helped him attain the rare feat in the latest update in the ICC ODI Player Rankings, which also saw Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan and India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah take the joint-top position among bowlers. Kohli has thus moved ahead of Brian Lara in the all-timers' list, having also overtaken him in the all-timers' Test list last month. Kohli is now seventh in the ODI list of all-time rankings that is led by Vivian Richards with 935 points and the India captain is now a good 22 points clear of Sachin Tendulkar, whose ODI career high of 887 points came against Zimbabwe in January 1998. Kohli's aggregate is the best since Brian Lara reached 911 points in March 1993.

Kohli has also become only the second batsman after South Africa's AB de Villiers to attain the 900-point mark concurrently in both forms of the game and one among only five to have crossed 900 points in both forms of the game as he consolidated his top position with 558 runs in the 5-1 series win over South Africa, during which he slammed three centuries.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who aggregated 323 runs in the South Africa series, is another notable gainer in the latest rankings even as a clutch of Indian bowlers made rapid strides in the latest rankings, including the wrist-spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Leg-spinner Chahal has moved up eight slots to the 21st position with 16 wickets in the South Africa series while Chinaman bowler Yadav's 17 scalps have helped him move up 15 positions to take the 47th position. Bumrah's eight wickets have lifted him two places to take the joint-first position.

Rashid has joined Bumrah at the top with 16 wickets in the series against Zimbabwe which Afghanistan won 4-1 to become the youngest to attain top ranking. His 51 runs in two innings in the series, including a brisk 43 in the final match in Sharjah on Monday, has also helped him break into the top-five in the list of all-rounders while he has also moved up 11 slots to take 114th place among batsmen.

The game of cricket, like everything else, is evolving with time. Players often try something new and if the rules of the game permit, it becomes the latest fashion. While batsmen are allowed to play some unusual shots like reverse scoops, helicopter shots and switch hits, there are a number of restrictions on the bowlers even in the modern-day game. In a latest video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their Facebook page, we can see a left-arm spin bowler taking a 360-degree spin before releasing the delivery and the umpire calling it a dead-ball. The bowler, however, did not switch arms. While ambidextrous bowlers are getting a lot of attention, this first of its kind bowling action might take some time to be accepted. 

The video, which has got more than 15000 views, has the cricket fans on social media divided. Some think it was a legitimate delivery while others agree with the umpire.

Interestingly, a lot of unusual bowling actions were slammed before they became sensations. 

Paul Adams might not have been a big name in the history of South African cricket but he was world-renowned for his weird yet effective action. 

Shivil Kaushik caught everyone's attention after he made his IPL debut for the Gujarat Lions in 2016. Within few minutes, after delivering his first ball, Kaushik took the Internet by storm.

People started comparing him with Paul Adams.

Team India's pacer Jasprit Bumrah's bowling action also came under the scanner in his initial days. With an abnormal, unorthodox action and natural pace, he is now the No.1 ODI bowler in ICC rankings.

Ashwin's unavailability is a big loss as he had taken a six-wicket haul at Adelaide to help India record their first win in a series opener in Australia.

India confirmed on Thursday that Ashwin had suffered a left-side abdominal strain, while Rohit jarred his back in the field during the first Test. Moreover, opener Prithvi Shaw is yet to recover from an ankle injury. With the trio unavailable for selection, India included Hanuma Vihari, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in a 13-man squad announced on eve of the second Test.

"Prithvi Shaw is recovering well from his left ankle injury but still undergoing treatment. R Ashwin has a left-sided abdominal strain. He is receiving treatment at the moment. Rohit Sharma jarred his lower back while fielding in the 1st Test at Adelaide. He is undergoing treatment. He too is ruled out of the second Test," read a statement from the BCCI.    

"The team management is closely monitoring these players and a call on their availability for the third Test will be taken at an appropriate time," it added.    

Ashwin's unavailability is a big loss as he had taken a six-wicket haul at Adelaide to help India record their first win in a series opener in Australia.    

Rohit, who made a Test comeback at the Adelaide Oval, was expected to retain his place in the eleven after scores of 37 and 1.

India named a 13-man team for the Test starting Friday, which is set to be played on a fast and bouncy Perth Stadium wicket.

His last-over heroics against Australia may have brightened his World Cup chances but all-rounder Vijay Shankar says he is not thinking on those lines and would just stay in the moment.

Captain Virat Kohli handed the ball to Shankar when Australia needed 11 runs from the last over and India required two wickets for a win. Shankar dismissed Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa in three balls, delivering when it mattered.

He may have made a case for himself with this performance to make the squad for the World Cup but Shankar is not thinking on those lines.

"I've said previously also that I never think about the selection or World Cup thing because it's a long way off from now. Every game is very important. I just look to give my best and win a game for the team," said the Tamil Nadu all-rounder.

Shankar said the tough final of the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka last year when he struggled to rotate strike was a big learning curve for him and it helped him in pressure situation today.

"To be honest the Nidahas Trophy has taught me too many things. Actually, I learnt to how to stay neutral after that. Be it high or low, it doesn't matter. I need to stay calm and neutral all the time."

"I was just ready for the challenge because I knew I had to bowl that one over. And I was just telling (myself) after the 43rd-44th over, I am going to bowl anytime. Maybe the last over and I should be ready to defend a total of 10 runs or 15 runs. So, I was mentally prepared for that."

The young all-rounder said experienced Jasprit Bumrah also guided him while approaching the final over.

"After the 48th over, Bumrah came up to me and said the ball is reversing a bit. He told me that I need to hit the right length on this wicket, where I give myself a chance to hit the stumps.

When he said that, I was clear mentally that the only way to defend those runs is by picking wickets and if I can bowl straighter, (I’ll) give myself a chance to take wickets," he said adding that he only bowled the last over for his club side before this.

Shankar said he would not over-react after taking match-winning wickets but is glad that he could help the tea win.

"Just because I got the two wickets in the last over does not make me feel really high or happy. I am trying to enjoy the moment and then go ahead with that."

He also batted well, contributed 46 runs off 41 balls before being run out in an unfortunate manner.

"When you get run out like this, I won’t say unfortunate, that was struck and he (Kohli) hit the ball so hard and I didn’t have much time to get back in (to the crease) but then these things happen in cricket. As long as I bat well and as long as contribute to the team’s win, I will be happy."

ICC Rankings: Steve Smith extends his lead over Virat Kohli to 34 points

Australian batsman Steve Smith has extended his lead over India skipper Virat Kohli at the number one spot in the ICC Test batsmen rankings. Smith now has a lead of 34 points over Kohli as the rankings were revealed on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old batsman scored 293 (211+82) runs in the fourth Test and as a result, he has further consolidated his position. With this, he is virtually assured of the top spot after the end of the five-match series between Australia and England.

Aussie pacer Pat Cummins also remains at the top spot in the bowlers rankings. The bowler took seven wickets in the recently concluded match and as a result, he has 63-rating points ahead of the second-placed Proteas bowler Kagiso Rabada.

India's Jasprit Bumrah is positioned at the third place. Josh Hazlewood has also entered the top ten for the first time in his career. He has moved to eighth place.

Afghanistan's 224-run win over Bangladesh in Chattogram has also resulted in major gains for their players. Afghan skipper Rashid Khan's player of the match effort of 11 for 104 has lifted him from 69th to 37th position in the bowling rankings.

Former Afghan captain Asghar Afghan's scores of 92 and 50 have taken him from 110th to 63rd position while Rahmat Shah's century in the first innings has helped him move from 93rd to 65th.
