Young guns lit up the Vizag cricket stadium on Wednesday as Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad played out a thrilling match in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday. The IPL 2019 Eliminator was ultimately won by Delhi Capitals as they knocked out Sunrisers Hyderabad from the competition by registering a 2-wicket victory with a ball to spare.
There were four top performers in the match from either teams who were the main reasons why the match turned out to be one of the most exciting ones in this season.
Rishabh Pant (DC), Prithvi Shaw (DC), Rashid Khan (SRH) and Keemo Paul (DC) made it a contest to remember as Delhi chased down 163 in 19.5 overs to book the match against Chennai Super Kings in the second qualifier on May 10.
The four players in the spotlight here also have one thing common between them - they are all under 21 years of age.
While Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw raised the bar with their batting, Rashid Khan and Keemo Paul delivered outstanding results with the ball.
"I was a bit nervous, but Ponting sir and Sourav sir believed in me, and I just went out there and played my natural game. I think Rishabh Pant just batted beautifully. (About Chennai Super Kings) We will have fun tonight, and then we plan from there. It's a big game, and we are going to prepare hard," Shaw said after the game.
Shaw had started the run chase on a high note as he hit 56 off 38 balls but it was Pant's swashbuckling 49 off 21 balls which saw him bag the man-of-the-match award. Pant smashed five sixes and two boundaries during his knock.
"If you are set on a wicket like this, you have to finish the match for your team. I took it very close, but next time I will finish it for the team. (Pressure) I just try to be positive. If your mindset is negative, it doesn't help. Especially in T20s, you need 40 off 20 or so, then you have to attack one bowler. I don't see who's bowling. It's in our muscle memory, and that's why we practise so much. Today, that was special because I didn't try to hit the ball too hard. I was just watching the ball, and I was trying to time the ball," Pant said at the post-match presentation.
Rashid Khan's spell of 2 for 15 from 4 overs certainly made the job tougher for Delhi but they managed to prevail in the end as Keemo Paul hit a boundary off the penultimate ball of the game to finish the contest.
Paul was also the wrecker-in-chief in the first innings as he bagged 3 wickets for 32 runs to help Delhi restrict Hyderabad to 162 for 8 in 20 overs.

India captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday became the second batsman to cross 900-point mark in both Tests and ODIs. Kohli's prolific run with the bat has helped him attain the rare feat in the latest update in the ICC ODI Player Rankings, which also saw Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan and India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah take the joint-top position among bowlers. Kohli has thus moved ahead of Brian Lara in the all-timers' list, having also overtaken him in the all-timers' Test list last month. Kohli is now seventh in the ODI list of all-time rankings that is led by Vivian Richards with 935 points and the India captain is now a good 22 points clear of Sachin Tendulkar, whose ODI career high of 887 points came against Zimbabwe in January 1998. Kohli's aggregate is the best since Brian Lara reached 911 points in March 1993.

Kohli has also become only the second batsman after South Africa's AB de Villiers to attain the 900-point mark concurrently in both forms of the game and one among only five to have crossed 900 points in both forms of the game as he consolidated his top position with 558 runs in the 5-1 series win over South Africa, during which he slammed three centuries.

India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who aggregated 323 runs in the South Africa series, is another notable gainer in the latest rankings even as a clutch of Indian bowlers made rapid strides in the latest rankings, including the wrist-spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Leg-spinner Chahal has moved up eight slots to the 21st position with 16 wickets in the South Africa series while Chinaman bowler Yadav's 17 scalps have helped him move up 15 positions to take the 47th position. Bumrah's eight wickets have lifted him two places to take the joint-first position.

Rashid has joined Bumrah at the top with 16 wickets in the series against Zimbabwe which Afghanistan won 4-1 to become the youngest to attain top ranking. His 51 runs in two innings in the series, including a brisk 43 in the final match in Sharjah on Monday, has also helped him break into the top-five in the list of all-rounders while he has also moved up 11 slots to take 114th place among batsmen.

Australian batsman Steve Smith has extended his lead over India skipper Virat Kohli at the number one spot in the ICC Test batsmen rankings. Smith now has a lead of 34 points over Kohli as the rankings were revealed on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old batsman scored 293 (211+82) runs in the fourth Test and as a result, he has further consolidated his position. With this, he is virtually assured of the top spot after the end of the five-match series between Australia and England.
Aussie pacer Pat Cummins also remains at the top spot in the bowlers rankings. The bowler took seven wickets in the recently concluded match and as a result, he has 63-rating points ahead of the second-placed Proteas bowler Kagiso Rabada.
India's Jasprit Bumrah is positioned at the third place. Josh Hazlewood has also entered the top ten for the first time in his career. He has moved to eighth place.
Afghanistan's 224-run win over Bangladesh in Chattogram has also resulted in major gains for their players. Afghan skipper Rashid Khan's player of the match effort of 11 for 104 has lifted him from 69th to 37th position in the bowling rankings.
Former Afghan captain Asghar Afghan's scores of 92 and 50 have taken him from 110th to 63rd position while Rahmat Shah's century in the first innings has helped him move from 93rd to 65th.

Pakistani media gave extensive coverage to the Indian Air Force's (IAF) pre-dawn operation to destroy a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camp in the country and most of them stuck to the official line that the Indian fighter jets entered the Pakistani territory by 3 to 4-km without doing any damage.
Hours after the strike, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told the media in New Delhi that a very large number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commanders and groups of jihadis who were being trained for fidayeen action were eliminated.
Official sources also said the IAF jets used a number of laser-guided bombs, each weighing over 1,000 kg, to destroy the JeM training facility in Balakot, around 80-KM from the Line of Control.
All major Pakistani TV channels, including the state-run PTV, Geo, Dawn, Express, SAMAA, ARY broadcast throughout the day that Indian jets violated the Line of Control in early hours of Tuesday, but did not talk much about India's claim of having destroyed JeM camps in Balakot.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) bombed terror camps at multiple locations across the Line of Control (LoC) on the Pakistani side in a pre-dawn strike, 12 days after the Pakistan-based terror group JeM carried out the Pulwama attack in Kashmir.
There was no other news in the Pakistani media since 11 am on Tuesday except the "Indian aggression". Interestingly, the Pakistani media picked up the official line that the Indian planes entered the Pakistani territory by 3 to 4-km and no damage was done.
All the channels gave live coverage to the National Assembly session where leaders of the main opposition parties - PMLN and PPP - talked of unity in the face of "Indian aggression".
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Khursheed Shah and former foreign minister Khwaja Asif said that the Indian planes entered 30-km inside Pakistan, putting a question mark on the official claim of the Pakistani government that the aircraft entered only 3 to 4-km. The media censored this statement of 30-km.
Talking to C24 News, senior journalist Iftikhar Ahmed questioned if the Indian planes only violated Pakistan's air space by 3-km, then why the Imran Khan government took more than 12 hours to clarify on it.
After his comment, the news channel took him off the air.
Another senior journalist Anjum Rashid said Pakistani media should not create an environment of "war hysteria" as it would serve no good.
"We should take up this matter with international community to put pressure on India," he said.
"Why did not we shoot down the intruding Indian fighter jets?" questioned senior journalist Ansar Abbasi.
"Indian Air Force attack is intelligently planned. They don't hit actual targets but they derive political advantage at home. It establishes an incursion below threshold putting Pakistan in an awkward situation as it has no cause to respond," said GNN TV anchor Moeed Pirzada.
"It was tragic that Foriegn Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi convened an emergency meeting at the Foreign Office six hours after Indian aircraft came into our territory. Even a tortoise can move faster," said anchor Syed Talat Hussain.
Known Geo TV anchor Hamid Mir put a question mark on the Indian claim of having destroying the terror camps of JeM.
Most media anchors, journalists and security experts also followed this line.
Some TV channels also ran the footage of the locals of Balakot, claiming that no unusual activity took place in their area.
